Our Khotan design rugs are dyed using the traditional methods of vegetable dyes, resulting in vibrant and decorative colours. The pomegranate pattern is the predominant design symbolizing fertility. You can also find swastika symbols, usually around the border, which represent peace.

Khotan rugs are known to have been made from the 15th Century, up to circa the 1920s, in an area called East Turkistan. Bokhara and Samarkand were also the hubs & essential marketplace for all sorts of goods of carpets & textiles. Only a few were made in silk, and the majority were made in wool. The original antique rugs of these areas can now occasionally be seen in museums or in the hands of private collectors.
